Quantum of Quanta (QoQ) — Independent Theoretical Physics Research

Space is discrete. Time is manifold. Matter is derivative.

Quantum of Quanta (QoQ) is an independent research project in theoretical physics and the philosophy of science. It develops a new physics theory — a concept of discrete multidimensional space — and asks how far a single premise about the structure of space can go toward a coherent picture of physical reality: time, matter, gravity and cosmic expansion. QoQ is developed in Belgium as an open research project of the nonprofit association EUKR ASBL. The full text is free to read.

An Open Research Project within EUKR ASBL

To date, the following has been done:

  • the official concept and project website has been created, where the main text of the concept is published (version 1.0.2 in English and Russian)
  • the concept book has been published (electronic and print editions)
  • the main project media channels have been launched (Telegram, X, Facebook, YouTube)
  • the concept text has been placed in open scientific archives and repositories (GitHub, Archive); the scientific publication has been assigned a DOI. The author’s ORCID iD: 0009-0008-7038-1036.

Quantum of Quanta is a fully open and publicly accessible project. All materials are available online free of charge. Support is not a condition of access. It helps preserve the open corpus that has already been created and sustain the further development of the project.

Open Questions in Modern Theoretical Physics

Modern physics rests on two remarkably successful theories — quantum mechanics and general relativity. Yet at the foundations of physics several questions remain open:

– the incompatibility of quantum mechanics and general relativity
– the presence of hypothetical entities (dark matter, dark energy)
– limits of applicability in the form of singularities
– the model-dependent nature of cosmological expansion parameters
– the unexplained origin of the fundamental interactions
– the lack of understanding of the nature of space and time.

Quantum of Quanta does not treat these as separate puzzles. It asks whether they share a common root — the assumptions physics makes about space and time — and whether one discrete model of space can address them together. The project does not claim a finished “theory of everything”. It tests how far a single, internally consistent framework can go.

Research Principles

The concept is developed by:

(i) requiring no artificial entities, (ii) interpreting observed physical phenomena in an internally consistent manner, (iii) eliminating the greatest achievable number of known contradictions in modern physics, (iv) forming an integral picture of physical reality, (v) preserving computability / formalizability at an acceptable level of abstraction, and (vi) maintaining a simple and clear language of exposition.

A New Physics Theory Built on Discrete Space

What if space is not a smooth continuum but is built of elementary cells — and what if the number of dimensions is not a fixed backdrop but a local property of each cell? QoQ develops this discrete space model with the tools of discrete geometry. Elementary Space Quanta are treated as Planck-scale hypercubes, their dimension is an integer variable, and a single transition rule governs how cells change. Integer counting, conservation laws and the combinatorics of cell faces take the place of continuous fields as the working language. This approach lets the concept ask why our space looks three-dimensional, how space can grow, and what follows if nothing in it can be divided indefinitely.

The Nature of Time and Spacetime

Is time a coordinate built into spacetime, or something that happens? QoQ approaches the nature of time from the dynamics of discrete space itself. Each elementary cell is described by a probabilistic state — a wave function over its possible transitions — and time is examined through the rhythm of these state changes. Within this discrete spacetime picture the concept investigates why time can run differently in different regions, whether there is one time or many, and where the observable limits of speed and measurement come from.

Gravity and Matter: An Alternative Approach

Most approaches to quantum gravity try to quantize the gravitational field. QoQ asks a different question: can gravity be traced to the structure of discrete space itself? The concept models interaction between the elementary charges of space cells using integer distances and indivisible force quanta, and examines gravitational effects as consequences of how the structure of space varies from region to region — without introducing a carrier particle. Matter is approached the same way: not as a separate substance placed into space, but as something derived from it and bound by conservation of charge. The open question is whether one mechanism can account for both.

Cosmology Without Dark Matter and Dark Energy?

Standard cosmology explains the expansion of the Universe and the motion of galaxies by adding components that have never been observed directly — dark energy and dark matter. QoQ explores an alternative cosmology that adds nothing. It asks whether expansion, the extra gravity attributed to dark matter, and even the behaviour of black holes can follow from the evolution of discrete space alone. The concept works backwards from observed cosmological parameters to the rules that could produce them, and tests its scenario against what the standard ΛCDM model has to explain — from the early Universe to large-scale structure today.

The complete text of the concept, version 1.0.2, is published in English and Russian on the project website and archived with a DOI.

The project is meant to stay open, accessible, and free — and we plan to keep building it this way: steadily, transparently, and in public. Your support helps make that possible.

In Quantum of Quanta, the state of space is described not by certainty, but by probability.
